In the name of spreading motivation and inspiration people tend to readily accept things they find solace in. Meanwhile, they often miss the truth behind. I came across this picture. Is s/he happy, content and thus rich? I don’t think so. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Likewise, don’t get fooled by one clicked moment in the front; behind the journey is arduous, each day and everyday. Think about it, however much I wish from the bottom of my heart, deep down I know the baby may not gonna smile all day long. Even if s/he does, lets not deceive ourselves. Life can be unfair and treacherous beyond our imagination.
“Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized, nor should any organization be formed to lead or to coerce people along any particular path” – J.K.
Often I tend to borrow similar views about Truth in different permutations and combinations. “Suppose you get very excited to have just discovered or experienced something extraordinarily pure, sane and rational (a new invention, an idea or even a discovery which you may be tempted to consider Truth). But the moment you touch or experience it in your consciousness, as real as it may seem, it spontaneously becomes a mere fact or actuality. However, Truth (the ultimate) you may be looking for may seem to exist yet beyond that.”
In fact, I feel the same is happening to science which is busy peeling never-ending layers of onion (be it particle physics, astronomy or neuroscience) to find that ultimate Truth. So I guess, Truth (which you wish to know or define by thought) becomes knowledge, intellect, actuality or fact once you come in contact with it; hence unapproachable in the realm of thought, knowledge or experience.
If you google, you will see truth is defined as “the state of being true”. Furthermore, for something to be true, it has to confirm with fact which again falls in the domain of knowledge.
JK, on the other hand, said Truth is “limitless and unapproachable by any path whatsoever”. Do you see the gravity of those words? I find it amazingly incomprehensible and fascinating. That means Truth can’t be defined in terms of knowledge because knowledge is always limited and approachable. Here, please note the difference between truth and Truth (which JK is referring to).
Let’s consider an analogy; can we define flow of a river, randomness of raining water droplets or the moving leaves in a tree due to wind blowing?
Of course, you may be able to determine, describe, characterize or even predict these movements by calculating their specific dynamics (even the offshoots at subatomic level). But the moment you try to define the truth of the process, it automatically becomes the particular movement of the river flow, the rain droplet and the leaf (in a given space-time continuum) which then becomes a part of your knowledge, thus LIMITED.
Having said that, I don’t think we are separate from Truth either. It is not that we are sitting here and Truth is somewhere out there in some divine land. Truth permeates everything including living, dead, mind, matter and us.
Think about it; if Truth did not pervade us then it would easily become separate from us, hence must become LIMITED (for not including us within it). Therefore, for Truth to be UNLIMITED, it must envelop LIMITED (i.e. all the matter and beings including us). That means UNLIMITED must contain the LIMITED to exist as limitless.
In simple terms, you may be a limited being but you are swimming in the ocean of unlimited. Thus the expression goes “Look within Yourself to Find Truth”. It is there (and everywhere) in every particle and every one of us.
The question then arises how you find or know something which you cannot define or approach and how you would know even if you possibly did.
That is when people may feel weak and tend to take shelter in ideas such as belief and faith (organized religions and so on); this could just be our inbuilt necessity to seek solace and the product of our own self-deceiving thought which basically works thru knowledge and is eventually limited by one’s own imagination. So to make life easier we live with our own particular or individual truths (created by our thoughts) which are inevitably bound to be in conflict with each other, therefore, ever fragmented; sometimes violent.
It is possible that Truth is a subtle movement of energy that simply exists in the form of enfolded potentiality (ever ready to manifest thru intelligence, beauty, love, justice, goodness, etc.), at the same time transcends subject-object dualism and space-time reality including our own consciousness as we know it. Truth is “THAT WHICH IS”; anything you add afterwards will only make it limited, therefore, perhaps not Truth!
